LinkedIn has two different PDF limits: carousel posts (PDF documents posted to the feed) allow up to 8MB, and resume uploads on job applications allow up to 5MB. Compress your PDF using PDFWix to stay within both limits. Processing is browser-based — your file is never uploaded.
LinkedIn's two PDF size limits
LinkedIn has different upload limits depending on where you are uploading a PDF. LinkedIn document posts (carousel posts in the feed where viewers swipe through pages): maximum 8MB, up to 300 pages. Job application resume uploads: maximum 5MB. LinkedIn profile featured section attachments: up to 10MB. LinkedIn Learning content uploads: up to 25MB. For most practical purposes — sharing a pitch deck, portfolio or resume — the effective limits are 8MB for feed posts and 5MB for job applications.
For a carousel post PDF: use Recommended compression. Target under 8MB.
For a job application resume: use Recommended compression. Target under 5MB. Most text resumes are already under 1MB — only design-heavy resumes with photos and logos may exceed 5MB.

LinkedIn carousel posts: making the most of the format
LinkedIn carousel posts (called Document Posts) let followers swipe through a PDF page by page directly in their feed. This format gets significantly higher engagement than standard image or text posts. For best results: keep carousel PDFs under 5MB even though the limit is 8MB — smaller files load faster for mobile users. Use a strong cover page (first page) as that is what appears as the preview thumbnail. Keep each page visually simple — single concept per slide, large text.
LinkedIn document posts (carousel posts in the feed) allow PDFs up to 8MB and up to 300 pages. Job application resume uploads are limited to 5MB. LinkedIn profile featured section attachments can be up to 10MB.
Why does LinkedIn reject my PDF carousel post?
The most common reasons are: file exceeds 8MB, file has more than 300 pages, or the file is not a valid PDF (some design tools export non-standard PDFs). Compress to under 5MB and verify the file opens correctly in a standard PDF reader before uploading.
Does compressing a resume PDF affect how it looks to recruiters?
For text-heavy resumes, compression is invisible — text renders identically at any compression level. For design-heavy resumes with headshot photos and company logos, compression reduces image sharpness slightly at High level. Use Recommended compression for resumes to keep images crisp.
