Google Drive has no built-in PDF signing feature. The fastest free workaround: download the PDF from Drive, open PDFWix Sign PDF in your browser, sign it, download the signed PDF, then re-upload to Drive. The entire process takes under 2 minutes. No account required.

Does Google Drive have a PDF signing feature?

Google Drive does not have a built-in PDF signing tool as of 2026. You can view PDFs in Drive, annotate them with comments, and open them in Google Docs (which loses the original formatting), but you cannot add a legally valid electronic signature directly within Google Drive's interface. Google Workspace includes DocuSign integration as an add-on, but this requires a paid DocuSign subscription.

The fastest free workaround: Download → Sign → Re-upload

    1. Open Google Drive and find your PDF.
    2. Right-click the PDF → Download. It saves to your device.
    3. Open PDFWix Sign PDF in a new browser tab.
    4. Upload the downloaded PDF. It stays in your browser — not uploaded to any server.
    5. Add your signature by drawing, typing or uploading a signature image.
    6. Position and download the signed PDF.
    7. Go back to Google Drive, click New → File Upload, and upload the signed PDF.
    8. Optionally delete the original unsigned version from Drive.

    Signing Drive PDFs on mobile

On iPhone and Android, the process is the same. Open Drive on your phone, download the PDF to your device storage, open a browser (Chrome or Safari), go to PDFWix Sign PDF, upload the PDF from your device, sign with your finger, download, and re-upload to Drive through the Drive app. The whole process works in the browser — no additional app needed.

    Google Workspace alternative: DocuSign add-on

If you sign PDFs from Drive frequently, Google Workspace Marketplace offers the DocuSign add-on which allows signing Drive files directly without downloading. This requires a DocuSign account (free tier: 5 documents per month). For occasional signing, the PDFWix free browser method is faster and has no monthly limit. Frequently asked questions

Can I sign a PDF in Google Drive without downloading it?
Not with built-in Drive features. Google Drive has no native PDF signature tool. To sign a Drive PDF without downloading, use the DocuSign add-on from Google Workspace Marketplace (free tier: 5 documents per month). For unlimited free signing, download → sign with PDFWix → re-upload.
Will re-uploading a signed PDF to Drive create a duplicate?
Yes, uploading a new file to Drive creates a new file. Drive does not automatically replace the original. If you want to replace the original, right-click the original PDF in Drive, select Manage versions, and upload the signed version as a new version. Drive keeps both versions but shows only the latest by default.
Is it safe to sign PDFs from Google Drive using PDFWix?
Yes. PDFWix Sign PDF processes files entirely in your browser. The PDF from your Drive is never sent to PDFWix servers — it is downloaded to your device, processed locally in your browser, and downloaded again as the signed file. No PDFWix account is created and no data is stored.
