Resizing vs compressing: what's the difference?
Resizing changes how many pixels an image has — its width and height. Compressing changes how efficiently those pixels are stored. A 4000×3000 photo resized to 1200×900 has about 11 times fewer pixels, so the file is dramatically smaller even at the same quality, and it displays faster everywhere. Making an image larger than its original cannot add real detail; the browser can only interpolate new pixels between existing ones, which softens the result. For sharp output, resize down rather than up. If an upload form limits both pixel size and file size, resize here first and then run Compress Image with a KB target.

Tips for resizing images
Resize down, not up
Enlarging cannot add detail and softens the photo. Start from the largest original you have.
Crop before forcing a ratio
Turning off aspect ratio squashes faces. Use Crop Image to the target ratio first, then resize.
Need a KB limit?
Pixels and file size are different limits. After resizing, run Compress Image with a target size.
Fix orientation first
If a photo is sideways, straighten it with Rotate Image before resizing.
