Vector vs raster: why the output size matters
An SVG stores instructions — draw a circle here, fill this path red — so it has no fixed resolution. A PNG stores a grid of pixels, so once it is created its sharpness is fixed. That is why the most important choice when converting is the output width: pick it for the largest size the image will be displayed at. 512 px suits app icons and favicons, 1024 px suits slides and documents, 2048 or 4096 px suits print and retina banners. Some SVGs have no width or height, only a viewBox, and some have neither; PDFWix reads the viewBox to keep proportions and falls back to 1024 px square when nothing is declared.
