Printing lecture slides, long reports or reading packs one page per sheet wastes paper and makes a thick stack. Placing two or four pages on each sheet — called n-up printing — halves or quarters the paper. Why make an n-up PDF instead of using the print dialog?
Most desktop print dialogs have a 'pages per sheet' option, but phones, tablets, many browser print previews and shared office printers do not — or they reset it every time. An n-up PDF bakes the layout into the file, so it prints identically everywhere, can be emailed as a handout, and can be stored as the reading version of a document. Choose the layout by content size. 2-up on landscape keeps slides and A4 text readable at roughly 70% size. 4-up works well for slides and large-type reports. 6- and 9-up are for thumbnails, proof sheets and revision cards; small text becomes hard to read.
